내면의 중심에 도달한 선사는 시냇물을 건너도 발이 젖지 않는다

In Zen they have a saying that a Zen master who has attained to his inner center can pass through a stream,
but the water never touches his feet.
It is beautiful.
It is not to say that the water never touches his feet
-- the water will touch them
-- it is to say something about the world within, the beyond within.
Nothing touches it,
everything remains outside on the periphery,
and the center remains untouched, pure, innocent, virgin.

선에는 이런 이야기가 있다.
자신의 내면 중심에 도달한 선사는
시냇물을 건너도 발이 젖지 않는다는 것이다.
아름다운 이야기다.
이것은 그의 발에 물이 묻지 않는다는 말이 아니다.
물론 그의 발은 젖는다.
이 이야기는 내면의 세계, 내면의 초월적인 세계를 말하고 있다.
아무 것도 그것을 건드리지 않는다.
모든 것이 주변에만 머물 뿐,
중심은 언제나 건드려지지 않고 순수하고 깨끗하게 남아있는 것이다.
